Kim's Kolumns

Welcome to Kim's Kolumns, the sections of ramblings from Kim. He quite often sends me photos along with these, but there are two reasons why they aren't ALL there.
1. I'm too busy/lazy
2. I only have 1.4 megs left of space on the main website server

So yeah, I'll put the occasional one along with each Kolumn.

Here are some sample tracks from the band Kim's in. Just click on the link and the song should play automatically.

Kolumn Four (I don't know what happened to Kolumn Three..)

'Marry me girl, be my fairy to the world, be my very own consolation'

I love this song. All I've been listening to recently. I can play all but a small part through the solo. I'm proud of me. Good song to get up n groove along to whilst playing. You're very free to move if you solely listen to the sound.

Well this week has been all right so far; I started working at the children's hospital in Westmead this week. I am really happy for doing it too. You know all the money in the world doesn't compensate for happiness, so why not just do what you love. Thing is, I've got to be realistic at the same time and have a job that gives me adequate money to stay alive down here, money for food, rent, etc.

I am thinking of putting all my tax return towards cancelling my phone. I don't like bills. Means you've got to pay something. Rent is different. Phone bills can be avoided. The way I want to live is by making sure I have money for rent, and whatever else I get is a bonus. I do need to get some money for a new guitar…and bass amp…and other shit for my computer that will allow the band to record simultaneously together but all in due course.

One thing that did happen on Tuesday was a mix up on my behalf whilst catching a train home. I won't go into detail but what is one 15 minute trip on the train took me 3 trains and 2½ hours later to get home…won't even go into it…Luke your right, I am a walking penis with arms. He he.

My back has shown signs of wear and tear at my current job already…and that's not a good thing. Yesterday when I woke up I had a severe ache towards the lower part of my back. Then whilst walking everywhere I was experiencing rather unpleasant shooting pains from my waist up either side of my spine…something's fucked up and I hope it gets better soon.

Every time I drink a can of coke, sprite, whatever, my top lip will bleed… what the fuck?

I saw Terminator 3 yesterday. Fuck it's awesome. It's different to Terminator movies but certain parts in the movie are so Terminator cliché' it just makes you say to yourself…how fucking cool is terminator!! J I loved the movie. For me, the only part in the movie that was spoiled, was knowing Edward Furlong, the original John Conner was replaced by whoever does play him n that just left a bad taste in my mouth. Apart from that, go see it if you're a Terminator fan… has enough moments to be worthy of a Terminator movie, don't compare it, and just enjoy it for what it is.

I received a message from Sarah Ellem at 2:42am this morning. It read:
'KIM! Wat is it with u guys? Either u want us or not. Don't mind me I am just havin a winge but it's a good winge J talk to u later gotta go to sleep.'

I'm confused. I haven't spoken to Sarah for a few weeks now. Then this. Hmmm wonder what the go is there?

(Editors Note: Kim I think she was talking about "u guys" as in our whole gender, a general statement)

Ben got back last night. It's great to see him again. To once again share the house with him. He's only been gone under 2 months but he'll be leaving again on Sunday morning for few more months. Fuck that, but really what can ya do. These next 2 days are going to be awesome, then fingers crossed there's work next week so I'll have some money for when the guys come down in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS!

Only a short column this week, I like short columns; I finish them in the one hit so there done.

Take it easy Team
Forever live the Gods of Funk and Friendship,
My love to you all

Kim

Kolumn Two

Well it's 11:41pm and Chris Sykes is 'away' on MSN n I got about 1 litre of milk to polish of before I go to bed tonight because it's going to be off by the morning so waste not, I'm adding Kahlua to it and getting hammered on the way, it's all good, I got a day off tomorrow.

Hows my week been so far??? Okay I guess. I went to a party last weekend, got hammered on the Wed night of the origin and am here now. Other than that I've been working flat-out and mixing the music on my computer… fun.

I'm now in the realisation that I probably won't be in a successful band. Not through lack of trying or talent, it just seems as if I am the only one willing to put the time and effort into making it work. Beau n Tank have the ability and passion for the music we make, they are just… I dunno, more realistic than me, who knows but I got the feeling I'm the only one that wants to take this band to greater levels and I can't see me been able to do it without them… bummer… where are u Yazie? S.O.S Yazie!!!!

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers… the Gods of Funk & Friendship… forever…

Steph's party was good; I was sober the whole night!!!! Yep believe it team Kim did not drink. I had a good time too. The boys had a 'nipple off', there were ass firmess tests, chicks burying there faces into each others breasts, the guys then attempted burying each others faces in other blokes chests but the crowd reaction was somewhat dismal compared to the girls, froze my ass off cause it was damn cold that night, and ended up getting about an hour worth of broken sleep before going to work. Good night, good night I say.

I worked hard over the week, nothing special there, the odd moment of insanity but nothing worth mentioning, except maybe one lunchbreak at Darling harbour where my Uncle Dave, Miguel and I were sitting at a dock eating lunch and watching all the seagulls gather round us trying to score a feed. They got it when Miguel had eaten enough of his chips and started throwing the leftovers at them; I thought it looked like fun so I proceeded to see if I could hit a seagull by pegging chips at them. Tell ya what, KFC chips can get pretty soggy, n when they do, they're a bitch to throw, so I stopped after a while n thought I'd test how quick they were at picking up loose food… this is where the fun began.

Oh broken… Asian porn is on SBS… TOO BAD IT'S MALE ON MALE PORN ARGH!!!!! NOT COOL!!!!! OHHHH NOW THERE… OHHH YUCK!!!!

That's better, Chilies r now on… good ole Chilies DVD…

'Pay your surgeon very well to break the style of aging,
Celebrity skin, is this your chin?
Or is that war your waging?'

Okay, back to lunch at Darlo. I got chips and tossed them in the air above Dave's head. This was okay but then Miguel challenged me to see how close I could throw it to his head before the seagull missed it and the chip landed on David. Got nice n close before we started throwing chips at each other n the kamikaze seagulls flew into us going hard for the chips, I managed to thump one nice n proper… didn't get hassled too much after that. Then came the potato n gravy…

Finally heard from Yazie over the weekend, brought up the topic of wanting to jam with her, she took it well. She was shocked, she also told me she'll be down in September!

I worked last Friday night, packed up a show at Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre. Had Justin around for a few billies afterward and discussed various topics that are in your usual stoner conversations. Juzzie's a champ, have a smoke with that bloke anytime. Had a day off Saturday and decided to finish this sample CD. I succeeded then went to the local shopping mall just to get out of the house. I bought a couple of DVD's while I was out. Enjoyed them all too. Favourite DVD of the ones I got…Terminator 2 Special Edition of course!

Anyhow I got a call at about 7 from Beau n Jen asking me if I wanted to come along to a party. I agreed and at the party my jaw dropped… I was in a room full of blokes… nice blokes I must admit but there were no ladies anywhere, it didn't matter though because I wasn't drinking so that I guess made the situation all the more awkward. We ended up going to this pub but after 2 minutes of been in there I left to get a bus home. I was applauding myself for choosing to get the bus home when I did, as it arrived pretty much as soon as I arrived at the bus stop. I got it to its destination, and went to the next bus I had to get was 20 minutes away. Great I thought, it was fucking freezing n I had to sit at the bus stop waiting for a bus when I could have been at home rugged up n warm.

I took another look at the bus stop thinking something wasn't right…yeah, thought so, I had read the wrong day, the last bus that was to take me to where I wanted to go left over half an hour ago. I jumped on the last bus for the night and it took me to West Ryde station. Nowhere I wanted to be. So I jumped off, jumped on the next train that came hoping it was the right one and hoping the train was going the right way. It did, and I was tucked away in my warm bed by 1. The trip home had taken me 1½ hours. It had been a long night.

Night Team

Kim

If u can make sense of this Kolumn I applauded u…because I am not even going to attempt figuring it out…n I wrote it!

Kolumn One Point Five

FINALLY…the sample CD has arrived…

Yep. I’ve done it, after slamming on the ‘lets go out n get trashed’ brakes, I have been spending all my free time at home with my computer mixing, recording and structuring the tracks you will hear on the CD I have done up for you.

It may seem like not much, but the time and effort spent on what you will be listening to surprised even myself for the quality of it. Most of these samples were just first takes that we settled with as we have tried to squeeze as much out of ourselves in the limited time we’ve had together. Believe me, we have spent no more than 8 hours together making music and that’s not all that long considering half the time were fucking around with other various bits and pieces. I.e.… recording the material we came up with onto the computer.

In my view, if I was to be in a band that could go all the way, I am with the right guys. The singer we finally decide on will no doubt make or break this band and once together on a regular basis, the quality of our music will just go straight through the roof.

The following is a description of the tracks, in order of the tracks and my personal views on them. Hope u find it informative, hey, even if u don’t who cares, just enjoy the music…what u have of it anyhow...he he.

1.
This is defiantly an opening track. It was a sample tank put onto a CD he had done up and recorded at his place. It’s so Metallica but still, it kicks ass. All I needed was a deep heavy bass line for it and we were sweet…

2.
This is what I came up with. Great powerful riff and a funked up bass line to back it up…it’s a dodgy recording of it as I fuck up on more than the odd occasion but you get that. Can’t wait to play it with him, Chilies meets Metallica, that’ll be explosive…

3.
Very AC/DC. Also out of sync with one another but I’m getting some bits and pieces soon that will let us record simultaneously so that’ll be good, we can work with each other, not just putting layers onto each other. I don’t mind the solo for this. Tank just pulled it out of his ass n tells me…’there we go, nothing special’… I love that man.

4.
Another very stop and start track, this and the AC/DC tile. Very Led Zeppelin arena rock track…that’s what makes this song so cool. Timings completely nowhere to be seen, but like I said, best I could arrange with material I had at my disposal.

5.
One of our drummer’s acoustics. Beaus great like that, always helps to have a universal band member, also gives us another guitar technique to play with. None of Beaus acoustics have been touched, except for I’m happy and most of the samples are first takes.

6.
‘Evolution’ From that basic sample some of u would have heard on the old CD, the transition from this to the end result…track 7, is amazing, thought you’d like an insight, this track was recorded at the computer with no intention to alter it…just happened and you hear it all on this track.

7.
The next recording after track 6. It’s rock you can groove to. I love it, one of my personal favourites, and also one we’ll have a lot of fun with.

8.
Another one of Beaus acoustics, he called this one ‘Utopia’ Fucks me why, but I like it. It’s a cool acoustic piece.

9.
DAMN BABY! You don’t get more Chili Peppers than this, and it was intended that way, the verse n chorus and the gap for the bass solo. Only piece of music with lyrics to go behind it. The chorus guitar piece was tank fucking around n I stopped him and told him… ’That belongs on this track’ done.

10.
He he, this is a cool acoustic by Beau. ‘Nuff said

11.
Metallica to the bone. An arrangement by Tank, I’m too scared to touch it, I like it too much, sounds so eerie it scares me.

12.
Same shit different smell… powerful guitar solo. Love it.

13.
This is my favourite riff. This is the riff that’s probably going to be one of our most powerful tracks. I love it

14.
I’ve thrown bass on it. Simple and effective, fucks me what drums will go with it… guess that’s why I’m the bass player!

15.
This is the first thing I heard on the sample CD Tank gave me to play with n it made me go wow. The little solo fill is cool.

16.
Ha ha, I heard Tank play this n went whoa, this is sooo Rage Against the Machine… he looked confused so I played him the track n he went, nah it’s not… the chords he’s using are way more powerful and effective than mine… just thought you’d like a little insight to that one.

17.
Probably one of the first things recorded… quality has improved.

18.
‘I’m Happy’ the intro says it all. He he, this track just makes us want to get up and do the most pathetic dance it rules. Such a happy tune it oozes corniness. We all love it.

19.
The most recent jam session we’ve had. It was recorded close to a month ago now. An insight to how we work. Each of us has our moment of brilliantness. Beaus on rhythm guitar, and tanks lead. I’m the dick on the bass

Enjoy it guys, hope u like it J See you all soon!!!!!!!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAH!

Kolumn One

Hello All

Well things have been a little hectic here in Sydney recently; I have had a haircut, no more reddish /blonde /pink /orange hair for me! Quit my job at 'Toner Medic' just over a week ago, my dad came down and stayed with me last weekend, started back at my old job as a labourer on Sunday afternoon and haven't had a chance to really breath since…apart from last Wed night when I chatted up a lesbian. Don't worry, that's not a bad thing…. it's…. a good thing J

Last Thursday I had a chat with Zoran my boss at Toner Medic and told him I was going to go back to child care, he looked at me, told me he wasn't a charity and I should finish a.s.a.p. I said 'okay, how soon?' and he told me why not today?? I was a little shocked at the suddenness but just looked at him n said fine, no worries. As of 5pm Thursday the 12th of June, Kim was up shit creek without a paddle.

Dad was down at that time so he really helped, I was quite surprised at his view towards it actually, I had no regular money coming in and I was about to be hit with a nice bill or two. He simply looked at me n said; 'Well mate, get out there'… K

Was he getting more laid back than usual in his old age or was it the reefer in his hands??? Who knows, but it made me feel a lot better.

Whilst he was down we actually got a lot done, we went out and he got me a fridge, new pair of shoes, a vacuum YEAH!!!!! And a chance to let out exactly what I thought of Sydney…it was good. We also got ripped to the high havens. It was a good trip all round I'd say. Oh he also got the Internet hooked up for me J YAY!! I'm currently downloading new MSN as I type this column actually, and it is taking AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGES!!!!!!

Funny story, my computer was loaded with a dodgy version of Windows XP Great, my computer was buggered from the word go…anyhow bottom line was that I had to reformat my machine… I wasn't happy, the music Tank, Beau n myself have recorded so far took 4 blank CDS and to make matters worse, I missed a few files so we'll have to re-record some tracks in the near future… actually we really have to re-record over 50% of stuff we've done cause a lot of it sounds dodgy… moving on… I had to reinstall windows n the whole computer shit itself… as always computer was a prick, small error turned into huge disaster. Never mind, got the computer back now. It's all good.

I started back at 'Exhibition Hire Service' on Sunday afternoon. I have since worked approximately 70 hours in 5 days. Big change from 40 hours a week at Toner Medic considering I do anything but sit on my ass at this job. I love it though, it's so much better, I enjoy earning my money… and the guys I work with are absolute champs. I'll fill u in on those guys in a later column… except for Alfonzo… I'll Fill you all in on this guy now.

Alfonzo is from Cuba and is known as 'Fonzy', 'Fonzo', or the universal name 'Bob Marley'. They don't get any more laid back then this bloke. He is a top bloke with huge dreads. He also is known to enjoy the odd smoke, and has informed us about how he tries to dread his pubes K

To load a truck takes a little thinking on what will fit where to fit the most on the load. Not this bloke, he tosses it on the truck then proceeds to cram it into areas of the truck it will not physically fit. Adam (One of the packers) found this out last night when Fonzy was in the truck with him helping him pack, every second piece of furniture that went into the truck a cry of pain would follow… Fonzie managed to slam something into Adam EVERY time the put a piece of furniture away. Fonz yelled out a fuck at one point in time and Adam was in hysterics. Fonz had managed to slam a desk into his own hand… Adam was very sympathetic; he didn't stop laughing for a good 5 minutes. Karma I guess.

Well here's a quote for u all… at work last night about 3am Ben one of the new casuals there asked us if we remembered the children's character 'Pork-Chop' Were all looking at him thinking 'what-the…?' But I clicked n asked u mean 'Lamb-Chop'? Yep I picked it.

Anyhow the quote, or more call of the week goes to Jeremy, the English backpacker with us last night with the most focused look saying, 'Pork-Chop the Lamb… mate, you're a bloody twit' HAHA it was way funnier last night but it still makes me smile. Ahhhh okay I'm over it, but come on, 'Pork-Chop the Lamb'? Hehehe I'm so sad…

There's also last Wed night…after a day running around Sydney setting up various shows I went off to the local with Graham and Jason. We got pissed played some pool and tried chatting up some girls. Too bad the table of girls we tried chatting up were man-hating lesbians. One girl at the table talked to us whilst the other 3 or 4 there just sat there with disgusted looks on their faces. Not that it bothered me cause the one I was chatting to was the hottest one at the table anyway… okay guys, deadest, she resembled Lita out of the WWE, but kinda more feminine. And she had a tattoo on her lower back that looked pretty cool. Anyhow chatting away and don't know if I suggested anything or what but she leaned closely toward me, put her arm around my neck and whispered in my ear, 'my partners nice and soft and all but she's going back to Queensland in 2 days and… I do miss the cock' EXACT WORDS!!!! Made me go '…oh!'

Well I have done heaps more but in all honesty I couldn't be fucked typing anymore so you'll all have to wait till the next column.

Below is the current line up of the band, look for a band name as soon as we can think of one… oh, and a singer… always helps J

Take it easy and my love to you all,
Kim
